Celebrating Big Ole through the Years

Four side-by-side photos show a large Viking statue—celebrating Big Ole through the years—in various settings, holding a spear and shield, wearing a horned helmet, red cape, and yellow tunic against urban or snowy, tree-filled backgrounds.

After the World’s Fair ended, Big Ole was welcomed to his permanent home in Alexandria, MN. He was placed on a pedestal on the north end of Broadway Street on December 21, 1965. Notice that the text on his shield was changed. Here he greeted visitors and residents for decades.
