Alexandria’s Winter Activities in the Great Outdoors

Two people enjoy Alexandria's winter activities in the great outdoors, cross-country skiing on a snowy trail through tall, leafless trees beneath a clear blue sky. The person in front wears a brown jacket and sunglasses; the one behind wears red.

2. Snowshoeing

snowshoeing 2

Snowshoeing has been around for 4,000-6,000 years as a very effective way to walk on top of snow. It’s a great way to enjoy a beautiful winter day by getting to places that may be difficult to explore any other time of year..like wooded hills, lakes and wetland marshes. Some fun locations to snowshoe are many of the area parks, frozen lakes, Glacial Lakes State Park and Lake Carlos State Park. If you don’t have snowshoes, you can rent a pair at Lake Carlos State Park. (make sure that ice conditions are good enough to walk on area lakes if you plan to do so).
