Zydeco Experience Rolls Through Alexandria

Three musicians perform on stage in Alexandria. One sings passionately into a microphone while playing an accordion, evoking a true Zydeco Experience, while the other two, holding brass instruments, look to the side. All wear patterned shirts.

Terrance Simien has been on the road hundreds of nights each year for several decades. In fact, he’s performed more than 8500 shows in his life, playing to audiences literally all over the world. Terrance enjoys getting to meet and entertain people of all ages, nationalities and cultures. After an invite from author Michael Tisserand to come to his hometown of Alexandria, MN, he agreed. Michael has written many books, but his book “The Kingdom of Zydeco” launched him into the southern musical culture that stretches from East Texas to Louisiana. During that time he has befriended and traveled with Simien in all kinds of places.

Terrance is a charming human being and entertaining musician with 2 Grammys to his name and a love for sharing his music, his culture and a little gumbo on the side. He was busy while in the area thanks to working with Theatre L’Homme Dieu and Arrowwood Resort. He started his three-day residency by playing for a couple of hours on July 4th on the lakeside lawn of Arrowwood prior to their Star Storm fireworks show. The next day, July 5th, he held a Bayou Adventure for Kids concert in the afternoon followed by a full concert that evening, both at Theatre L’Homme Dieu. To finish off his influence on the community he traveled back to Arrowwood on Thursday and with the help of the 2100 Chophouse chef, Simien cooked up a pot of country creole gumbo for a group of about 30 people. The recipe was a Simien family tradition.
