Summer Sounds Concerts at Lake Brophy Park Begin

A large crowd sits in lawn chairs facing an outdoor stage by a lake, watching a live Summer Sounds performance. Trees and a small building are in the background, with a large screen on the stage under sunny, clear weather.

An idea by the Alexandria Rotary Club to add another music venue (the Summer Sounds Concerts), raise awareness of one of Douglas County’s newest parks (Lake Brophy Park), and raise money for community projects enters its second year. Tuesday July 16th is the first of four Tuesday night concerts at the park, with Lake Brophy as the back drop for the bands and the Visitor Center, playground and mountain bike trails the backdrop for the fans.

The free concerts brought in several thousand people each night back in 2023, and with this year’s lineup of music, and raised awareness of this great venue, more are expected in 2024.

Music starts on July 16th with Blonde and the Bohunk at 5pm. The Fabulous Armadillos take the stage at 6:30pm. There will be a ribbon cutting at about 7:15 for the new Rotary playground shelter. (It is a product of the funds raised during the 2023 concerts).

July 23rd’s concert starts with music by “The Three of Us” followed at 6:30 by Xpedition.

The July 30th concert begins at 5pm with Runestone Rebellion, with Janelle Kendall’s Perfect Storm performing at 6:30pm.

The last summer sounds concert is August 6th beginning at 5pm with Blond and the Bohunk once again, and the legendary Johnny Holm Band highlights the night at 6:30pm.

TRANSPORTATION/ FOOD/DRINK: There is limited parking out at the park, but there will be free shuttles running from 4:30pm to 9:30pm from the Douglas County Fairgrounds, going to and from the Lake Brophy Visitor Center at the park. The Central Lakes Trail runs directly through the venue and therefore, people are encouraged to ride their bikes to the performance if possible.

13 food and treat vendors will be on site during the events. No alcohol or outside coolers are allowed in the park. The Summer Sounds Pub will be available on site during the concerts. Funds from the sale of alcohol and other beverages goes to help fund community projects.

The events are possible thanks to many community partners including Alomere Health, Clifton Larson Allen, Knute Nelson, Diamond Buick GMC, Tradesmen Construction, Sanford Health, Juettner Motors, Bell Bank and others.
