We all know that a perfect scenario for winter in the Alexandria Lakes Area is cold weather in November that leads to good solid ice followed by a couple of good snows in December. Since we have not experienced the perfect recipe for outdoor winter fun, any signs of winter are welcome news. That’s why we had to go out and record the third and latest snowfall of late 2023. The first took place in late October, but quickly melted away as did the second one in December. This December 27th morning snowfall “may” keep the ground white in time for cooler weather to enter the state in the first week of the new year…..”may.”

Four days of rainfall and warm temperature reeked havoc with the ice conditions across the area. Most lakes have large openings on them once again, making it dangerous to get out on the ice for now. We took a little spin around the Alexandria area just before noon on Wednesday, December 27th to give you a look at what it “looks” like. (VIDEO BELOW)

Please be cautious if you do plan to get out on the ice and fish. The MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has many great resources when it comes to venturing out on Minnesota lakes during the winter including the ice depth chart and videos on how to save yourself should you fall in the water.

One bright spot this winter has been Andes Tower Hills. They have been making snow any chance they possibly could and therefore have a good base and many ski/snowboard runs, including the tubing hill open for you to enjoy.
