About Big Ole Park
Located just north of downtown Alexandria on the south shore of Lake Agnes. Big Ole Park is home to Big Ole, a 28-foot tall viking statue, as well as serving as the trailhead for the Central Lakes Trail. On Big Ole’s shield is the audacious claim that Alexandria is the “Birthplace of America”. You’ll have to investigate the Kensington Runestone‘s 1362 origin to uncover reasons for the claim. Good news for you, the Runestone Museum is just across the street from the park with all of the details AND the stone itself.
In the Summer and Fall, this park serves as host to Alexandria’s Farmer’s Market three times a week. Offering a full line of locally raised produce: apples, beans, beets, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, garlic, herbs, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, raspberries, squash, strawberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, bedding plants, flowers, elk, lamb, beef, eggs and chicken.
During the summer months, a Saturday Art Market is also in the park, providing items from area artists for purchase, along with musical entertainment from 10am to close.
