Almost as exciting as the yearly tradition of lighting up the lights on Broadway in Alexandria is the day ALP Utilities and City crews put up the lights.

Bright and early Monday morning the work began at the intersection of Broadway Street and 4th Avenue. Five downtown intersections have received the full treatment, including crisscrossing lights adorned with a Christmas tree on top. These full intersections, from 4th to 8th, will mark the location of the new lighted parade event this year, which will follow the annual lighting ceremony. The parade is being called “Lights on Broadway” and will begin at 6:00pm, going north to south and ending at the Veterans Memorial Park on 8th and Broadway. As of Monday morning 39 groups or organizations had signed up with the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. Parking will be confined to side streets right before and during the parade. The lighted floats will line up from 4th and Broadway, all the way past ALP Utilities and alongside Knute Nelson ball field.

The city will light up poles along Broadway from 8th Avenue all the way down to 17th as well as decorations down 3rd Avenue East and West.

Christmas in the Fort / Light up Broadway

The annual Alexandria holiday kick-off tradition begins earlier in the day at 3:00pm down at Fort Alexandria. Both the Runestone Museum and the Legacy of the Lakes Museum have a series of events from 3-6pm!

Light up Broadway at 5:15pm! Be dazzled as we flip the switch to turn on the Christmas Lights Down Broadway! A 100 year-old Alexandria woman will be the person to officially flip the switch.
