April 11th, Last Call for Ice Fishing!

A person holds a colorful bluegill fish with golden-yellow and green scales, displaying it above a surface of ice—perfect for the last call for ice fishing.

Last call for ice fishingWe went from driving trucks and wheel houses last weekend to needing tall boots to walk on in only 3 days.  The sun is very powerful this time of year.  Couple that with 70deg temps and it doesn’t take long to melt some ice.  We still have a lot of ice to melt, but I’m confident that most anglers with a desire to ice fish will still be able to get out this weekend.  The ice is quite thick out in the middle but the edges are melted away making it a bit tricky to get on the ice.  A pair of boots should be all you need to get on the ice this weekend but after that it’ll be day by day.  I expect this weekend will be last call for most ice anglers in our area.Fish are still biting well.  I was out Wed. evening and quickly found fish.  There was crappie and bluegill suspended in 16-20 foot of water.  They were eager to take our offering and we quickly iced 40+ Bluegill and 30+ crappie.  It doesn’t get much nicer than catching fish in a t-shirt after the long winter we’ve had.Soon we’ll be fishing from a boat catching slab panfish.  I’ll keep you informed as we make our way to open water.  Good luck this weekend!
