Central Lakes Trail Conditions: Almost Clear!

A large Viking statue holding a spear and shield stands on a brick base near the walking path, offering a unique landmark for those checking central lakes trail conditions. Patchy snow covers the ground, with bare trees under a clear sky in the background.

You don’t have to double check your calendars, it’s February and we’re biking on a mostly snow-free Central Lakes Trail. The area has been experiencing unseasonably warm weather recently which has accelerated melting during an already low snowfall year. While I certainly enjoy riding the streets and frozen lakes during the winter, I just can’t wait to get back on that wonderful wide paved trail that is the Central Lakes Trail! To my delight I found the trail to have good riding conditions for mountain bikes, fat tire bikes and hybrids with good tread. Since the trail is not completely clear we’ll have to keep our road slicks at home for now. Bikes with decent tread on the tires should have no problems getting you out on the trail for some early spring enjoyment. Looking ahead at the upcoming forecast of upper 30s and 40s (and also 50 degrees!), I imagine the melting will accelerate and conditions will continue to clear. Of course you could always go for a nice walk as many people have already been enjoying. Whichever way you choose, here is a quick update on conditions here at the end of February:

Anything can happen with weather and we can’t completely assume no more snow in the coming months. Check out our website’s Live Camera Feed of the trailhead at Big Ole Central Park for real-time views of the trail!
