Big Ole Paddlefest to Highlight Alexandria Waterways

People enjoy paddleboarding and kayaking on Alexandria’s calm waterways, surrounded by lush greenery. Some stand and paddle while others sit, creating a relaxed Paddlefest atmosphere among trees and reeds lining the river.

According to Douglas County Land & Resources 21% of Douglas County is covered by water! Not all of that water is in the form of lakes and the upcoming Big Ole Paddlefest (BOP) aims to show off all the connecting rivers and streams in and around Alexandria. Don’t you worry, it will highlight lakes as well. This an annual event, but for the first time the event will run on a Saturday and Sunday.

On Sat., July 13th, stand up paddleboarders, kayakers & canoeists paddle scenic lake-to-lake courses of 5, 10 or 17 miles.  On Sun., July 14th, the Long Prairie River Cruise is a gorgeous, family-friendly trip down a MN State Water Trail.

The Big Ole PaddleFest is not just a lot of fun, it is a charitable, adventure paddle on Alexandria’s Chain of Lakes and the Long Prairie River.   Over the course of the past few years, the event has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the local United Way chapter. The Big Ole PaddleFest (BOP) welcomes paddlers of all crafts, skill levels, and children 12+.
