The Alexandria Area has over 300 lakes within Douglas County. Among all these lakes a few stand tall in terms of uniqueness and all out fun. Yep, the Chain of Lakes! Just as it sounds, most of these lakes link to one another by channels without having to portage your watercraft (accessibility varies by lake, season and boat size). Located directly around the city of Alexandria, this collection of lakes includes Lake Carlos, Lake Darling, Lake Le Homme Dieu, Lake Geneva, Lake Victoria, Lake Cowdry, Lake Jessie, North Union Lake, Lake Taylor, Lake Stony and Lake Brophy. There are also some additional lakes on the chain with channels only navigable by canoe, kayak or paddleboard. The lakes with channel accessibility for the majority of boats are Le Homme Dieu, Carlos, Geneva, Victoria and Darling.

These lakes are true gems for Alexandria. Countless people enjoy numerous activities including boating, fishing, tubing, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and docking your boat at a lakeside restaurant for a bite to eat! The Chain of Lakes are an outstanding recreational resource for Alexandria and a perfect destination for vacations.
